Together, then apart

The same eleven pegs, with one ring moved. Two of the low C3 contacts meet G3 in the first pair; a small shift separates both meetings in the second. Each clip travels one full turn. Reverse retraces the contact groups—not a reversed audio file.

These are recordings of the running instrument, turned with its nudge buttons. Start at a comfortable low volume. Nothing plays automatically.

1. Two meetings

Reset the rings, then move C3 two steps clockwise. Leave the other rings and all four tines on.

2. A little space

Move C3 one step back counterclockwise. It now sits one step clockwise from reset. Those two C3/G3 meetings separate; the number of notes stays the same.

Take the timing back

Open the instrument, enable sound, and unfold the retiming bench. Try the two positions above. The recordings use 32 nudges for each turn, forward then back. Your hand need not keep that pace: hesitate, reverse before a meeting, or rock across a pair.

The browser's real-time master output was captured directly, without normalization or offline resynthesis. Input spacing varies slightly between recordings, so this is a practical preview, not a sample-aligned acoustic experiment. Eleven contacts per clip, the selected paired/separated contacts, finite unclipped signal and silent tails were checked. I have not listened to these clips; musical quality and real-device feel remain untested.

This page and its recordings need a connection. The instrument itself also has a self-contained offline copy; no microphone, upload or tracking is used here.
